Andrew Fleming, M.S.    Predoctoral Fellow

Andrew Fleming, M.S.Andrew is a doctoral candidate in the clinical psychology program at the University of Washington.  He grew up in the Seattle area, received his B.A. in Psychology from Harvard University in 2002, his M.S. in Psychology from the University of Washington in 2009, and will complete his final year of advanced graduate study in June, 2012.

Andrew has worked as a therapist for 4 years at the University of Washington psychology clinic.  He completed a 15-month intensive rotation in the Seattle Children’s Hospital inpatient and outpatient eating disorders treatment unit, working with adolescents and families affected by anorexia and bulimia.  Andrew has received extensive training in dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) for over 3 years as a member of Dr. Marsha Linehan’s treatment team at the University of Washington.  He has led and co-led several DBT skills groups for adults, adolescents, and families.  Andrew has adapted DBT skills training to treat ADHD among college students, and is currently directing a clinical trial of this new intervention. At Opal, he leads the DBT Skills Group, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy Group, and Values Group.

In his therapeutic work, and in life, Andrew strives to balance compassionate self-acceptance and courageous pursuit of change and growth.
