FAQ's
We see clients ages 16 and over. All gender identities are welcome at Opal.
We encourage all potential clients (16+) to contact us directly to learn more about Opal and to schedule their initial phone intake.
Caregivers, providers, family members, and friends are welcome to reach out for general information about Opal and our programs. However, please note that for clients 18+ the intake process must be initiated directly by the potential client.
Our Intake Department is happy to answer any questions about our services.
While we cannot provide specific referrals to individuals who are not clients of Opal, we do recommend: FindEDHelp.com, Psychology Today or Edreferral.com to find eating disorder specific care. For RO-DBT specific referrals: radicallyopen.net
Co-occurring disorders are very common for clients at Opal. In some cases, this may be an indication that a higher level of care or a non-eating disorder treatment referral is needed. If a potential client is at high risk due to substance abuse, suicidal ideation with a plan, or psychosis, we will consult as a team to discuss if treatment at Opal is appropriate prior to admission. At Opal, we primarily treat eating disorders, which means that if the eating disorder is not the primary diagnosis, we will most likely refer a potential client to a more appropriate treatment option.
We work with clients who have trauma or a PTSD diagnosis regularly. We use a variety of modalities and we refer out to our community for adjunctive trauma based therapies if we don’t have the resource within Opal.
At Opal we believe that full recovery is possible but it is not an overnight process. A client’s length of stay in PHP and IOP varies widely. We would recommend expecting PHP treatment to be one to four months long. It is customary to have a client that starts in PHP step down to IOP and receive IOP treatment for one to three months. Our recommended path of treatment includes PHP, IOP and OP for most clients to establish a strong start to recovery. Please keep in mind that these are estimates and are dependent on each individuals needs and readiness for treatment.
Timeline for receiving treatment at Opal is dependent on our current openings. If we do not have current openings, clients are placed on a wait list and contacted ASAP when a potential admission date is set. We ask clients to anticipate the intake process to take approximately a month from start to finish however, admission can occur at a quicker pace or a slower pace depending on open space in our programming and client’s motivation/needed timeline.
